Our Charitable Work

Region VIII supports programs that create opportunity, encourage inclusion, and improve the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our charitable work continues to grow through the dedication of our members, community partners, and supporters.

AAC Communication Boards

AAC boards provide pictures, symbols, and words that help people communicate their needs, choices, and feelings. Region VIII supports the creation and placement of these tools in locations where they can promote greater independence and inclusion.

Surf Camp in Pismo Beach

Surf camp gives participants the opportunity to experience the ocean in a welcoming and supportive environment for those who otherwise may not be able to participate. This program brings together recreation, encouragement, and unforgettable memories for participants and their families.

International Scholarship Program

The Order of Alhambra’s international scholarship program supports students preparing for careers in special education. These scholarships help strengthen the future workforce of educators who will serve students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

San Diego State University Scholarships

Region VIII supports scholarship opportunities connected with San Diego State University’s College of Education. This assistance helps future educators prepare to serve students with diverse learning needs with skill, patience, and compassion.

Community Dances in La Verne

Dances at the La Verne Community Center provide an inclusive setting for music, friendship, and celebration. These events offer intellectually and developmentally disabled participants an opportunity to socialize, enjoy themselves, and feel fully welcomed within the community.
